Who We Are

We plan, build, and care for Lancaster County’s facilities, grounds, and public access sites so residents, businesses, and visitors can live work and enjoy safely and reliably.

Core Services

  • Solid Waste & Recycling – Convenience centers, household trash & recycling, brush/wood waste disposal, and tire disposal
  • Buildings & Grounds – Maintenance, repairs, janitorial, HVAC, signage, landscaping
  • Capital Projects – Scoping, bids, construction oversight, contractor coordination
  • Vehicle maintenance for county administration vehicles and solid waste operations
  • Parks & Public Sites – Upkeep of lots, launches, and common areas
  • Emergency Support – Storm preparedness and catastrophic debris management

Convenience Center Operations

Locations and Hours:

  • Kilmarnock Convenience Center - Located on White Pine Road (VSH 788) one mile SW of Kilmarnock. Hours: Mon-Sun, 7:00 AM-7:00 PM
  • Lancaster (Regina Road) Convenience Center - One mile east of Lancaster Courthouse on Regina Road (VSH 604). Hours: Mon-Sun, 7:00 AM-7:00 PM
  • Nuttsville Convenience Center - Located on Gaines Road (VSH 723) one-quarter mile from the intersection of Nuttsville Road and River Road. Hours: Mon-Sun, 7:00 AM-7:00 PM

Illegal dumping at the Convenience center gated areas during non-business hours or closures is prohibited.

Sites operate on posted hours; see the County’s Facebook page for updates regarding closures or delays.

Decals: Lancaster County does not require stickers/decals at this time.

What’s Accepted (household quantities)

  • Household Trash - bagged and tied
  • Recyclables - cardboard (OCC), mixed paper (where posted), steel/aluminum cans, scrap metal
  • Appliances & Metal - empty and free of fluids
  • Yard Waste/Brush - small to limited amounts; bagging preferred
  • Other Materials - as posted at each site (availability varies)

Not Accepted/Special Handling

  • Hazardous liquids/chemicals, paints, fuels, oils - bring only to designated Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events
  • Large Construction & Demolition (C&D) loads - use marked containers only; limits/fees may apply
  • Tires, electronics, and bulky items - acceptance varies; check site signage or the County’s Facebook page before bringing

Special Programs

  • Oyster Shell Recycling - drop-off at Kilmarnock Convenience Center
  • Litter Prevention - cargo-net giveaway (DEQ grant supported) during announced events
  • HHW Events - dates posted online and on site

Lancaster County and its Convenience Centers have established the following Holiday schedule.

  • Independence Day - OPEN
  • Labor Day - OPEN
  • Thanksgiving Eve - OPEN
  • Thanksgiving Day - CLOSED
  • Christmas Eve - OPEN
  • Christmas Day - CLOSED
  • New Years Eve - OPEN
